The Blue Rider
until
The Lenbachhaus is home to the world's largest collection of the Blue Rider, one of the most important groups of avant-garde artists in the early twentieth century. The core of this treasure consists of the generous donation by the painter Gabriele Münter, who bequeathed more than a thousand works by The Blue Rider artists to the Lenbachhaus on occasion of her eightieth birthday in 1957. From March 12, 2024, the Lenbachhaus will be presenting the Blue Rider collection in the exhibition "The Blue Rider. A new Language".
For this reason, renovation work will be carried out in the Blue Rider section from January 29 to March 11, 2024. Highlights from the current presentation will remain accessible during the renovation. These include "Blaues Pferd I" ("Blue Horse I") and "Vögel" ("Birds") by Franz Marc as well as Kandinsky's paintings on the path to abstraction. Works by Marianne von Werefkin, Alexej von Jawlensky, Gabriele Münter, Maria Franck-Marc and August Macke from the time of the "Neue Künstlervereinigung München (NKVM)" (New Artists' Association Munich) and the Blue Rider will also be on display.
