Emma Tarlo (professor of anthropology, Goldsmiths University of London) curated the exhibition "Hair! Human Stories" (2018), which examined the global trade in human hair and other hair-related issues. In her talk, she will draw on her research on hair and material culture and the power of globalized industry and global trade for a discussion of Sheela Gowda's "Behold", a work that combines four kilometres of hair with car bumpers and exemplifies the artist's creative engagement with India's social, political and economic challenges.

Lecture in the context of the conference "A Hairy Affair: The Material Poetics of Hair" by the Graduiertenschule Sprache & Literatur, LMU Munich, July 9-11, 2020.
