Roman Ondak's works are often interventions in space or actions at the exhibition site. Playing with meaning, context, and imagination is central to his artistic practice. He subtly approaches reality and playfully questions everyday moments of experience. Ephemeral interventions and performances form the basis of his site-specific works. Often, the artist initiates participatory projects with laymen. In doing so, he develops a great intimacy with those actively or contemplatively involved.
For the performance "Teaching to Walk" Roman Ondak invites a mother and her son into the museum. There, they practice walking together. In addition to the fascination of this special moment of learning to walk, the toddler's sometimes still uncoordinated and unprejudiced first steps also question the well-trodden paths of museum visitors. For the artist, taking first steps within museum spaces also includes a moment of cognition and early education of an enlightened society.
The performance takes place in the context of the exhibition "Fragment of an Infinite Discourse".
