With acoustic indie soul, delicate folk-pop, and crystal-clear songwriting, German-Finnish artist Anna Hauss tells stories of closeness and distance, of quiet doubts and intense emotions. Her songs have a groove while also carrying a melancholic depth. Over this lies her extraordinary voice: at times a deep, warm murmur; at others, a bright soprano that seems to float lightly. Added to this is her delicate, virtuoso guitar playing. It never pushes itself to the forefront, and that is precisely why it stays in your ear.
The Berlin-born singer and guitarist studied jazz vocals in Leipzig. Anna Hauss has also gained international attention with her solo career. She composed and sang a song for the Netflix series "The Queen’s Gambit" and was nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for her work on it.
With her debut album "how long is now" (2023), Anna Hauss definitively established herself as a unique voice at the intersection of indie, soul, jazz, and singer-songwriter music. The album was reviewed by Rolling Stone, Deutschlandfunk, Radio Eins, FluxFM, and Spiegel Online, among others, and led her on an international tour with stops in Berlin, London, New York, Bucharest, and Paris.
Her second album, "Unknown Waters", explores the unknown. It’s about the courage to take the plunge, to let go of what can’t be controlled, and to accept that the future is unpredictable. The result is a delicate, atmospheric guitar-driven album about relationships, change, and the search for new ground beneath one’s feet.
On November 5, Anna Hauss and her band will perform a concert as part of embrace at the Lenbachhaus and Kunstbau in Munich. We look forward to a special concert evening with you!
embrace is a new concert format for Munich that gives female artists in contemporary music greater visibility. Although much has changed in the music scene, stages and concert programs are still frequently dominated by men. Women remain significantly underrepresented as performers, composers, producers, or bandleaders. This is not due to a lack of ideas, skills, or artistic vision. Rather, it’s about who is invited, who is heard, and who gets the opportunity to present their music to an audience.
At the Lenbachhaus, embrace creates a space where national and international female musicians, composers, and sound artists take center stage with their work. Their music can sound very different: electronic or acoustic, experimental or pop-oriented, calm and focused, or loud and immediate. Diversity is a key feature of the format, for it is precisely this that defines the openness of embrace.
The concerts take place in the atrium of the Lenbachhaus. Here, the format offers the audience the opportunity to discover new and emerging female artists before they become known to a wider audience.
