As part of the exhibition Fantastic! Alfred Kubin and the Blue Rider we will take a closer look at Kubin's impact on contemporary art on 29 January. We are showing The Sandman, a film by the Quay Brothers together with the choreographer William Tucket, which is based on the story by E. T. A. Hoffmann.
After the film you can ask the Quays questions. Since 1979, the twins have created a dark and lyrical ouvre consisting of animated films, drawings and stage sets, which has been exhibited, among others at the MoMA (2012), the Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam (2013) and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (2014).

The film program accompanying the exhibition Fantastic! comprises works that focus on the bizarre and irrational; films whose original stories Kubin himself has read and at the same time transformed into visual worlds through illustration.
