At the beginning of the 20th century, the first independent scene of modern dance developed in Munich. After the start of Isadora Duncan's triumphant tour of Germany at the Munich Künstlerhaus in 1902, numerous protagonists of the new body art made their debut here, including Clotilde von Derp, the first expressive dancer, and Alexander Sacharoff, the first modern dancer, who in 1913 became the first modern dance couple.

Dance History Tour Walks & Talks recalls the emergence of modern dance in Munich and combines this with contemporary perspectives. On different city walks, Munich's dance history is brought to life in a multifaceted way: at original locations and during visits to museums and archives, with historical texts and pictures of dance events that caused a sensation at the time, as well as with live performances.

A tour connects the current exhibition "To Be Seen: Queer Lives 1900-1950" at the NS Documentation Centre with the Glyptothek and the Lenbachhaus at Königsplatz. The Bavarian Junior Ballet Munich and the contemporary dancers Cristian Cucco, Fanni Schack and Emily Schofield will perform Sacharoff-Derp dances and an Isadora Duncan re-enactment during the tour. Using the examples of Isadora Duncan, Clotilde von Derp and Alexander Sacharoff, body images of life reform, feminism and androgynous stagings as well as the relationship between art and life will be thematised.

The dance performances will take place in the atrium of the Lenbachhaus and are open to all interested parties free of charge and without booking. They are additionally part of a Walk & Talk; this can only be booked via the Dance Festival website.
