In a collaboration with HFF BIPoC Group, ausARTen and Lenbachhaus curators, Third Space: Disordering the Mess created a video piece entitled Gazing at the Gaze: An Enactment, highlighting personal and critical gazes on the two exhibitions "Group Dynamics: The Blue Rider" and "Group Dynamics: Collectives of the Modern Period." The intention of the piece was to draw attention to Third Space's effort to bridge inside and outside perceptions, positions, and perspectives, which were discussed in a final event held on the Collaboratory platform.
ausARTen—Perspektivwechsel durch Kunst is an art festival that celebrates the radical diversity of post-migrant Munich. ausARTen was hatched at Münchner Forum für Islam e.V. (MFI), a mosque in the city center, and is held under the auspices of MFI. ausARTen opens up hybrid spaces in which art and culture serve as media of education, encounters, and conversations that bring something new into being. Forging a variety of alliances, it works on a range of themes to overcome the mental division between “us” and “you.” https://ausarten.org/about-us/

HFF-BIPoC Group (@bipoc.hffmuenchen) is a group of BIPoC students at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) that seeks to create a space for self-determination and opportunities for self-empowerment. The collective forms an empowering community that works to initiate structural changes in the German film industry. Empowerment, for HFF-BIPoC, means not just existing in relation to whiteness, instead charting ways to collectively engage with members’ own questions (of identity) and establishing a legacy of (post)migrant and pluralistic storytelling and filmmaking that future generations of students can build on.
The filmmakerJîyan Alkan is animated by a philosophy of life that conceives of film as manifesting poetry in everyday life. Film, to him, is a medium of temporality and things happening as well as the annihilation of both. In audiovisual pieces, Alkan devises a language that aims to represent the unobservable.
The German-Taiwanese filmmaker Sabrina Diekow (@sabdiekow) studies documentary-film directing at the University of Film and Television Munich (HFF). She is especially interested in the intersection between journalistic and documentary forms and the construction of (ostensible) truth in film.
