INTERACTIVE WALKING TOUR: THE BLUE RIDER And ART AFTER 1945

What do you mean, completely abstract?!

That is the question this interactive walking tour will explore by focusing on the ways the museum’s art speaks directly to students’ daily lives. The program guides them in a searching examination of how they feel and think about music, clothes, emotions, and language to facilitate a concrete experience of thoroughly abstract ideas—and art.

Drawing up interpretations of works in the Blue Rider and Art after 1945 collections that take their own associations into account, the students will gauge the abstract or representational valences of works of art. Using mapping techniques and movement choreographies, they will then test ways to define these terms and apply them to their own creations.

Bring your own music! Students are explicitly encouraged to bring music (on their mobile phones or other media).
